The Legend Of Zelda:
Ocarina Of Time

No title

Varusteet

Swords

Kokiri Sword

Shortly after our adventure begins, you find the hidden treasure of Kokiri, the Kokiri Sword. While it doesn't do much damage, it's reliable and just your size!

We are forced to get this item before we can go see the Great Deku tree. It's found in the southeastern corner of Kokiri Forest.

Master Sword

The mystical sword from many of the other Zelda titles makes an appearance! It's the only thing that can defeat the King of Evil, so it's a good thing you get it, huh? This is trusty blade fits your new size and has further range than your Kokiri treasure. Your Spin Attack is quite improved with it as well.

You receive this blade shortly after getting the three Spiritual Stones and opening the Door of Time.

Biggoron's Sword

This two handed blade does twice the damage of the Master Sword! You can't use your shield while you wield it however... It's very handy to take down some of the harder "big health" enemies such as Stalfos, and it's excellent against almost all of the bosses, in particular Dark Link and Bongo Bongo. Unfortunately, it's awkward to use against flying enemies like Keese and Guays or ranged foes.

You get this sword from Biggoron atop Death Mountain (thus, the name). It's the end reward of a very lengthy trading sequence.

Shields

Deku Shield

The first shield you get in the game, it's reliable and mobile and gives decent protection against most types of attacks. You can use it to reflect some projectile attacks as well, such as Deku Nuts or rocks. Unfortunately, it's made of wood and can burn easily against Fire Keese, Dodongos and lava.

Initially, you have to buy it in the Kokiri Shop for 40 Rupees before you can even see the Great Deku Tree. Later on, you may have to purchase it again during your journey if you burn yours accidentally... Luckily, there's lots of Business Scrubs around who offer this service. (Maybe they're secretly behind it all, trying to burn your shield!)

Hylian Shield

The second shield of the game, this trustworthy defense is made of steel and won't burn up like your last shield. Unfortunately, it's too big for you as a child and leaves you to hide under it rather than walk around. Later on, you'll be able to maneuver with it much easier. As an adult, this shield will reflect normal type attacks back at your enemies.

This shield can be bought from the shop in Hyrule Town Market (past) or in Kakariko Village (future) for 80 Rupees. For the initial purchase, if you talk to the guard at the base of Death Mountain first, he'll knock the price down to 60. There is, however, a free Hylian Shield hidden in the Graveyard...

Mirror Shield

This sturdy shield is tougher than heck! regular projectiles just smash into pieces when they hit this shield, while magical attacks disintigrate against it (and sometimes even get reflected)! If you have this shield equipped and get swallowed by a Like Like, it won't eat it, which is cool (especially since you can't buy it back o.O)

It's found in the second half of the Spirit Temple and is required to defeat the boss of the temple, the Twinrova sisters.

Another thing worth noting is that the design for the original game (N64) was the shape of a crescent moon and a star, which resembles a religious symbol and was thus changed for the Master Quest and later versions of the game.

Tunics

Kokiri Tunic

Our hero was raised by the Deku Tree in Kokiri Forest amongst the other children of the forest who wore this same style of tunic. It doesn't do anything special, but it's the trademark of the series, so you're bound to wear it most of your journey.

You start out with this one and there's no way to lose it at any point in the game.

Goron Tunic

As a child heading to the top of Death Mountain, you probably took a peek at the Death Mountain Crater, which is too hot for you to be in for long! There's got to be some way around that, huh? The Gorons have a tunic designed for people who can't stand heat like they can (why would they design such a thing?) which is good, cause you have to go to the Crater to get to the Fire Temple.

You first get this tunic from Darunia's son when you return to Goron City in the future. You can also buy it from the Goron Shop in the lowest portion of the city. Just watch out, it can be eaten by Like Likes if you don't kill them fast enough!

Zora Tunic

There's a couple bodies of deep water in the game that are just begging to be explored. Unfortunately you can't exactly breathe underwater, so we're left in an awkward place, no? Fortunately, the Zoras have designed a tunic so people can be underwater, like them! (Once again, why would they do that?) It's a good thing, since the Water Temple is at the bottom of Lake Hylia.

You first get this tunic from King Zora in Zora's Domain after thawing the Red Ice off of him (and completing the Ice Cavern). Alternatively, you can buy it from the Zora Shop, of course, but that's spendy! Just watch out, just like the Goron Tunic, Like Likes will digest (and destroy) it if you don't kill them fast enough!

Boots

Kokiri Boots

These regular boots don't do anything special, as depressing as that is. They're reliable and what'd you'd expect in... boots I suppose...

You start out with these puppies, 'nuff said.

Iron Boots

Regular boots just aren't cutting it anymore? Need something more interesting? How about boots with a ton of metal strapped to them! No? Don't worry, even though they're complete crap on land, they make you move quickly on the sandy floors underwater! Along with the Zora Tunic, they make an awesome team. =)

The one question I have is: how do you float when you take them off?

These heavy beasts are found at the end of the Ice Caverns.

Hover Boots

This mysterious set of footwear allows you to, as the name so eloquently puts it, "hover," when you step out over a ledge for a few brief moments. After that, it's a free fall to your doom. This is great to cross over big distances that are too far to jump. Unfortunately, wearing these things makes you float on everything, including the floor, so it's just like running on ice! Still a cool addition though...

These things are found during the beginning of the Shadow Temple.

Bullet Bags

Deku Seed Bullet Bag

The first Bullet Bag allows you to carry up to 30 Deku Seeds, the ammo for your Slingshot.

You automatically receive this item when you get the Fairy Slingshot in the first dungeon of the game: Inside The Deku Tree.

Big Deku Seeds Bullet Bag

The first upgrade lets you carry up to 40 Deku Seeds!

There's two upgrades for the Bullet Bag, but it doesn't matter which order you get them in:

1) In the Lost Woods, from Kokiri, go right once, then shoot the center of the target hanging from the tree until you get "100 points." Get three 100s in a row to get the upgrade.

2) In the Hyrule Town Market, get a perfect score at the Shooting Gallery to be gifted with the upgrade.

Biggest Deku Seeds Bullet Bag

The second and final upgrade lets you carry up to 50 Deku Seeds!

Quivers

Quiver

The first quiver you get only has the capacity for 30 Arrows, which isn't much at all.

You get this puppy as soon as you find the Fairy Bow in the Forest Temple.

Big Quiver

The first upgrade for the Quiver lets you hold up to 40 Arrows!

There's two upgrades for the Quiver, but it doesn't matter which order you do them in:

1) Get a perfect score at the Shooting Gallery in Kakariko as an adult.

2) Get at least 1500 points at the Horseback Archery Range at the Gerudo Fortress.

Biggest Quiver

The second and final upgrade lets you hold up to 50 Arrows! It's too bad it's not bigger, you can use that much up quickly.

There's two upgrades for the Quiver, but it doesn't matter which order you do them in:

1) Get a perfect score at the Shooting Gallery in Kakariko as an adult.

2) Get at least 1500 points at the Horseback Archery Range at the Gerudo Fortress.

Bomb Bags

Bomb Bag

This fancy bag is made from the stomachs of Dodongos, which I think is a stupid explanation. If Bombs are the weakness of Dodongos and makes them explode, why would I want a bag made of that? Does that mean I might explode at any moment?! Just a thought...

This bag initially allows you to hold up to 20 Bombs. Pretty sweet I tell you.

Found within the second dungeon of the game, Dodongo's Cavern.

Big Bomb Bag

The first upgrade has a silver stripe instead and lets you hold up to 30 Bombs. Yay'ness!

There's two upgrades, but they can be gotten in either order:

1) Stop Hot Rodder Goron's wild rolling in Goron City under the big overhang.

2) One of the five prizes at the Bombchu Bowling Alley.

Biggest Bomb Bag

The second and final upgrades has an awesome gold stripe!!! (and lets you hold up to 40 Bombs!)

There's two upgrades, but they can be gotten in either order:

1) Stop Hot Rodder Goron's wild rolling in Goron City under the big overhang.

2) One of the five prizes at the Bombchu Bowling Alley.

Picking Up (A)

Goron's Bracelet

This bracelet allows you to pick up plants and rip them right out of the ground, roots and all! Sounds dumb, but let's see you do it - it's hard!

You get this item from Darunia in Goron City. It's required in order to enter Dodongo's Cavern.

Silver Gauntlets

Most people have to pump iron for ages before they can finally pick up really heavy things. Not Link. He cheats and gets these things to let him pick up silver boulders. This is, of course, assuming that silver boulders are heavier than regular boulders. Didn't you learn that in school? I think I missed that somehow... Also, wouldn't this make Link swing his sword harder or something? I guess not.

These gauntlets are found in the first half of the Spirit Temple.

Golden Gauntlets

How could it get any better than picking up silver boulders man, I mean, come on, silver boulders... Well, Nintendo managed to come up with an excuse. There's even bigger silver things! That's right, silver and big! There's two colossal silver obelisks (tall object with a pyramid shaped top) found in the game: one within Ganon's Castle blocking the way to the Light Barrier, and one just outside the castle guarding the final Great Fairy Fountain. Just press A on them and watch the cinematic. Ooooo...

This upgraded pair of gloves are found in Ganon's Castle in the Shadow Wing.

Diving (A)

Silver Scale

This cool blue thing is a scale from one of the Zoras. Apparently, if you rip one of those off of them or catch them after shaving, you can get one of these things! It lets you dive down to 3 additional units (meters?) which gives you a total of 6! That's deep man, real deep!

This item is a prize for beating the Diving Game in Zora's Domain the first time.

Golden Scale

This golden variety of the last item (straight from a mystical golden Zora?) allows you to dive an additional additional 3 units (meters?) which gives you a total of 9! Just crazy I tell you... It's only really good to get a heart piece, but it is pretty nice for the Water Temple as well, assuming you know how to get it early with the Scarecrow's Song...

You can win this item by getting a fish that's 15+ pounds at the Fishing Pond in Lake Hylia.

Wallets

Child's Wallet

This little wallet only allows you to carry up to 99 Rupees and makes you feel very poor... but luckily, you can get an upgrade to it early on, so it's all good. =)

You start out with this crappy thing.

Adult's Wallet

Finally! This upgraded wallet lets you carry up to 200 Rupees! Not great, but still good.

You get this prize from the first child (10+ tokens) in the House of Skulltula.

Giant's Wallet

Woot! The final upgrade for the wallet gives you a limit of 500 Rupees! Unfortunately, by the time you can hold that much, you don't really need to save up your Rupees for anything... All well, it still feels good...

You get this prize from the third child (30+ tokens) in the House of Skulltula.

Other

Stone of Agony

This strange stone closely resembles a Rumble Pack for the N64. With this in your inventory, your controller will vibrate whenever a Gold Skulltula is nearby. That is assuming that you aren't using an amazing guide, like this one.

You get this prize from the second child (20+ Tokens) in the House of Skulltula.

Gerudo Membership Card

This slip of paper proves you're a "real thief" and allows you to go anywhere you like in the Gerudo Fortress from now on. Apparently, "real thieves" carry around cards to prove their *shifty eyes* thief'y'ness... Maybe other thieves steal it, realize what it is and put it back...?

You get this item from the Gerudo Captain after rescuing all the carpenters in the Gerudo Fortress.

Collection

Heart Containers

The Zelda series has consistently given players Heart Containers for defeating all of the bosses in most of the games. They increase your life by one whole heart to progressively make you spifftacular. That's right, I did indeed just combine the word spiffy with spectacular. It fits our desired description well, don't you think?

Heart Pieces

Another thing common to the Zelda series is Heart Pieces, which you can collect to make more Heart Containers (4 pieces = 1 container). It's kind of a fun way to feel rewarded for side quests rather than just getting Rupees (boring!)

There's 36 Heart Pieces which gives you a total of 9 Hearts, should you choose to collect them. Check out our Heart Piece Guide to find them all.

Gold Skulltula Tokens

What game would be complete without a serious collectable item? In Kakariko Village, there's a building called the House of Skulltula, with six people inside that are cursed with the "Curse of the Spider," making them all spider-like. Go figure. By killing Gold Skulltulas scattered all over Hyrule (of course) and collecting the tokens they leave behind, you can slowly cure the family and get nifty prizes!

To learn more about the quest to collecting all 100 Tokens (you know you want to), check out our fantastical Gold Skulltula Guide.

Quest

Spiritual Stones

For the first part of the game, we are trying to collect the three Spiritual Stones (of Forest, Fire and Water). They're used to open the Door of Time in the Temple of Time. Zelda sends you off to collect them to keep them from Ganondorf's hands.

The bear a similarity to the Pendants of Virtue from A Link To The Past and the Goddess Pearls from The Wind Waker.

Medallions

The Medallions are a physical representation of the power given to you by the Sages (one for each of them) and their willingness to help you seal away the King of Evil. As you progress through the temples and awaken each of the Sages, you'll get a new Medallion. It's a handy way to keep track of which dungeons you've completed.
